Kootenai Health’s Forensic Nurse Examiner Program is hosting a two-day strangulation training, presented by
the Training Institute on Strangulation Prevention. This in-depth program is designed for healthcare professionals,
advocates, law enforcement, legal experts, and other members of Sexual Assault Response Teams (SART).
The training will explore the critical connection between strangulation, sexual assault, intimate partner violence, and
homicide. Participants will gain insight into the medical and legal aspects of strangulation, including its physical
and psychological impacts, the motivations behind it, investigative strategies, courtroom prosecution and defense
approaches, advocacy techniques, and methods for building an effective, coordinated community response.
