RPD investigating murder-suicide at home with history of domestic violence calls

    August 4, 2020

    By Miranda Angel
The Redding Police Department has launched a murder-suicide investigation after responding to a call on the 1600 block of Spanish Bay Drive.
Officers responded to a welfare check around 2:18 a.m. Tuesday morning to husband and wife tenants, after family members received a voicemail from the husband stating he had just killed his wife and was threatening to end his own life.
When RPD arrived on scene, they attempted to make contact with the husband at the front door. However, he was uncooperative and was armed with a knife
Additional officers went to the back of the house to locate the wife. Upon entering the house to give her medical attention, RPD discovered she was already deceased and had obvious signs of trauma.
When the husband then noticed officers in the home, he began advancing at them while stabbing himself with the knife.
RPD used a taser to stop the man from stabbing himself, and then called an ambulance that transported the man to Mercy Medical Center.
The man later died of his injuries.
Inside the home, officers found notes allegedly handwritten from the husband, in which he confesses to killing his wife.
According to the Redding Police Department, officers had responded nine times to the same residence on Spanish Bay Drive since 2018. Three of those times the husband was arrested for domestic violence-related crimes.
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to call the Redding Police Department Investigations Division at (530) 225-4200.
