ROCKFORD (WREX) — The city of Rockford has officially announced the name of the new Family Justice Center.
The city says the justice center will be known as the “Family Peace Center.”
The name reveal happened at a two day event in which members from the Alliance for HOPE International is in town to help with a strategic plan for the Family Justice Center.
“We wanted a name that promised hope and safety to survivors. We think Family Peace Center tells that story,” said Mayor McNamara in a tweet on the city’s Twitter page.
The justice center aims to be a one-stop shop for survivors of domestic violence and a resource for sexual assault survivors.
“Community members told us that justice looks different to everyone,” explains Jennifer Cacciapaglia, Manager of the Mayor’s Office of Domestic Violence and Human Trafficking Prevention. “Survivors told us the name should be warm and welcoming for both them and their children.”
Alliance for HOPE International and its allied Family Justice Centers serve more than 150,000 survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and their children each year in the United States.
