ROCKFORD (WREX) — Congresswoman Cheri Bustos made a stop in Rockford on Thursday to discuss a new bill that would help get more money for the Family Justice Center.
Congresswoman Bustos added language to a bill passed that through the committee this week which would increase funding for facilities like the Family Justice Center.
If the bill passes congress, it will add $9 million in grants through the U.S. Department of Justice to go towards programs like the Family Peace Center in Rockford.
“City government, county government, businesses,” said Congressman Bustos (D-District 17). “You’ve got everyone coming together recognizing that this is a need.”
Bustos met with Rockford’s city leaders to learn more about the Family Peace Center and what she can do to help from a federal government standpoint.
“What I can do as a member of Congress is make sure that there are line items that are funded to a degree that Rockford will have a good shot at going after this grant to help develop the Family Justice Center,” said Bustos.
Congresswoman Bustos says she’s confident the bill will pass congress and says more information about the funding should be available by the end of the month.
