The Montgomery County Board of Education and the County Council recognized February as Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month to help teach teenagers about abusive relationship behaviors.
This recognition emphasizes the efforts made by Choose Respect Montgomery, an initiative of the county’s Domestic Violence Coordinating Council and the Family Justice Center.
Teen dating abuse is any physical, sexual, verbal or emotional harm done by one teenager to their partner, and one in three teens in the U.S is a victim of this kind of abuse, according to the Family Justice Center.
Choose Respect Montgomery is offering several programs this spring to raise awareness for teen dating violence, including the 9th annual Healthy Teen Dating Conference on April 7 and PSA video contest.
