LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — The Lynchburg Police Department took a suspect into custody after a barricade lasting more than seven hours overnight Thursday into Friday morning.
Police responded to the 80-block of Jackson Street for a report of an assault around 10:55 p.m Thursday, April 16.
According Lynchburg Police, when officers arrived, they attempted to speak with the suspect, Shawn Calloway, 50, of Lynchburg, but he barricaded himself in a residence.
Members of the Lynchburg Police Department’s Tactical Unit and Crisis Negotiations Team responded to assist with taking Calloway into custody.
Tact Team members could be heard yelling “Shawn, this is Lynchburg Tactical Unit and we have a warrant for your arrest.”
After many attempts to speak with Johnson, chemical agents were deployed.
Tactical Unit officers say they eventually took Calloway into custody on charges of domestic assault and battery, strangulation and abduction.
Officers were heard calling out to the suspect inside the home and they also were seen breaking windows, the front door and walls of the home.
