During the evening hours of May 20, 2020, deputies responded to the 100 block of Maple Shade Drive, in Lincoln County, for a domestic assault. When deputies arrived they observed, 37-year-old Albert Cassella, of Old Monroe, performing CPR on the victim in the master bedroom.
Deputies observed blood coming from the victim consistent with extreme strangulation. The victim was transported by ambulance to a local Hospital. While in route to the hospital, the victim lost a pulse and had to be resuscitated.
Cassella was transported to the Sheriff’s Office for questioning. According to the suspect, the victim slapped him and went to the master bedroom to retrieve a handgun. Cassella said the victim pointed the handgun toward him and he strangled the victim until she stopped moving.
Cassella stands 6’9” and weighs 369 pounds while the victim stood 5’6” and weighs 170 pounds and both were in an adult relationship.
The victim remains in critical condition.
Prosecutors charged Cassella with Domestic Assault First and he is currently housed in the Lincoln County Jail. Honorable Judge Patrick Flynn set a no bond warrant. Other conditions of bond may apply.
