Here’s how one organization is raising hope in Shasta County families

    February 20, 2021

“Pathways to Hope for Children [an Affiliate of Camp HOPE America] has adopted the Hope Theory, a method of increasing hope and fostering resilience in people. The organization in 2013 began working with Chan Hellman, a professor of psychology at the University of Oklahoma School of Social Work and founding director of the Hope Research Center.

“The organization implemented the theory beginning with Camp HOPE America, a week-long evidence-based mentoring program focusing on children and teens exposed to abuse and domestic violence. The method was later adopted by the Shasta County Office of Education in 2020, said Wendy Hall, SCOE director of continuous improvement and support.

“From there, administrators began to train teachers, counselors and school leaders on the theory, Hall said.”
