Free anti-elder abuse forum June 14 in Fairfield

    June 3, 2019

    Story by: Vallejo Times-Herald

The public is invited to stand up against elder abuse by attending the Solano County District Attorney’s Office and the Family Justice Center’s Fourth Annual Elder Justice Forum from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday, June 14 at the Solano County Events Center, 601 Texas Street in Fairfield, organizers announced.

In recognition of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, this year’s theme is “Lift Up Voices for Elder Justice,” they said.  Topics of discussion at the forum include: Elder Justice Collaborative Services, Redefining the Needs for Elder Justice, Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program Updates, plus, interactive activities to engage attendees in being part of the solution and tips on how to avoid becoming a victim, organizers said.

“We invite you to participate in this opportunity to take action and help protect seniors by raising awareness and learning more about elder abuse and the services available in Solano County,” District Attorney Krishna Abrams said.  “Together, we can all make a difference.”

The Solano County District Attorney’s Office, in cooperation with the Solano Family Justice Center, Ombudsman Services of Contra Costa and Solano County, Solano Partnership Against Violence, and Older and Disabled Adult Services and their many community sponsors, invite the public to attend this free event provided for professionals, advocates and community members.

Agency vendors and representatives will also be available to provide guests with informational hand-outs, answer questions and provide recommendations for services and assistance offered for adults of all ages. Continental breakfast is included.

For more information and to RSVP for the event, contact Lori Frank at the Solano Family Justice Center at (707) 784-7635 and LAFrank@SolanoCounty.com or register at Event Brite at: https://www.eventbrite.com/o/district-attorneys-office-of-solano-county-14850398176.

World elder Abuse Awareness Day serves as a call to action for individuals, organizations and communities to raise awareness about abuse, neglect and exploitation of elders.  The International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse and the World Health Organization first observed WEAAD on June 15, 2006 at the United Nations.
