Dancing with the Shasta Stars is returning in support of the nonprofit One Safe Place. This year, there are six pairs competing who are rehearsing their dance routines now. The event is being presented by Obsidian IT.
The local stars include several business owners like Cynthia N. Stephens. She and her professional dance partner, Hagen Lebak, told KRCR they’re happy to be giving back to the community.
“This is a really great cause,” Stephens said. “We’re having fun, but it’s for a serious cause for One Safe Place.”
Lebak added, “I, for one, love working with One Safe Place. They helped me a lot as a child, so it’s a great feeling to be here doing this for them.”
One Safe Place and Children’s Legacy Center Chief Operating Officer Elizabeth Schroeder said, “Not only does [DWTSS] help provide funding to One Safe Place and the services provided, but our staff and our team gets to see the community rally around this cause, and then also, there’s always victims who get to see that.”
Stars commit to raising $10,000 going toward One Safe Place to help victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, with each star hosting their own fundraising events leading up to DWTSS.
Dancing with the Shasta Stars is on Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Cascade Theatre in downtown Redding.
The theme this year is Old Hollywood, and a total of six awards will be presented to competitors in categories for fundraising and dancing.
