Governor Mike Parson has appointed Associate Circuit Judge Becky Borthwick as the 31st Judicial Circuit’s new Circuit Judge.
Borthwick will fill the newly established position created in 2019 by the Missouri General Assembly. She becomes the first female Circuit Court Judge for the 31st Circuit appointed under the Missouri Nonpartisan Court Plan.
The other finalists were Supervisory Assistant U.S Attorney Randall D. Eggert and Ginger Gooch, partner at Husch Blackwell, LLP.
Borthwick has been serving in Division 25 of the 31st Circuit, handling DWI court, juvenile TPR, and associate circuit civil and criminal matters. Borthwick has also served as a municipal court judge. She earned a B.A. from the University of Missouri and J.D. from the University of Oklahoma.
“I congratulate Judge Borthwick on her appointment and move from the Associate Circuit Court to the Circuit Court,” Greene County Presiding Commissioner Bob Dixon told OI. “She’s an excellent judge and I look forward to her continued service to the 31st circuit.”
The 31st Circuit covers only Greene County. Borthwick’s appointment marks the first expansion of the number of Circuit Court Judges in the circuit since 1976.
Borthwick will likely move into a courtroom built in the current space of the Greene County Family Justice Center. The Center will be moving into the recently acquired Tefft building in late 2019 or early 2020.
